manrunnerRunning is something a lot of us run away from (no pun intended). I can’t tell you how many people I’ve met who claim they hate running and wouldn’t do it if I paid them. But they still want to lose weight! These are the same people who are stunned when I tell them that running to lose weight is great because certain running techniques can burn up to 800 calories per hour!

That little revelation usually makes them think twice. So let’s assume that you’re not one of those people who just aren’t going to change their mind about running. What if you don’t mind running a little every day and you are finally ready to lose weight once and for all. Where to do you start?

Running to lose weight is going to require a lot less of you in the way of a diet. That doesn’t mean you can slack off or eat whatever you like, but your diet is going to be far less complicated than the bodybuilder next door. That said, it’s still pretty important to know what you’re doing when it comes to your nutrition. Screwing up your calories intake or eating the wrong things can really hurt you during a run.

Nutrition is Key

Nutrition for running is much different than nutrition for say, bodybuilding or strength training. When running you need to focus more on carb consumption than on getting enough protein. You don’t usually burn fat while you’re running because fat isn’t a very good fuel source for such a heavy duty exercise. What you need to is to give you body plenty of easily burned fuel during the exercise so that you can burn fat afterward.

Finding the Right Program

It’s always best to make sure that you find a guide or a program to help you. Running to lose weight seems really simple: lace up your shoes and hit the bricks, but that isn’t at all the case. Actually, improperly starting a running program can really cause serious injury. That’s why I always recommend that people find a program that’s simple and inexpensive the “The Running Diet” so they can learn the basics and have a set plan to follow to their weight loss goals.

If you’re running to lose weight, don’t start randomly. Take your time and make sure that you have a solid plan to follow. If you take it step by step you absolutely cannot fail. If you haphazardly approach fitness, you’ve absolutely doomed your efforts.
